John Rager is Professor and, alas, currently Chair of Computer Science at Amherst College, where he has taught since time immemorial.
A number of years ago, he was a Fulbright in Moldova, and he strongly recommends Moldovan Wine.
He is interested in applications of Machine Learning to textual analysis in the humanities and has spent time at the Folger Shakespeare Library in connection with this.
POSEE Notes/Thoughts/Reponses:
Having looked at the HFOSS projects, I think I am most interested in Sahana and Ushahidi. It looks to me like Ushahidi is very far along in its "life cycle" and that it might be hard to join it in a meaningful way.
A sort of amusing note - I spent a good time wandering through the "sugar labs" pages. I looked at the bug tracker, read the landing page, looked for a recent commit (2014?). When I was done doing this, I realized I have no idea what Sugar Labs actually i, other than that it is "a collection of tools that learners use to explore, discover, create, and reflect". And that's pretty vague. I shall have to explore further.
